MOORFIELD CC HAVE BECOME SANDHURST TROPHY WINNERS FOLLOWING A VICTORY OVER TARLETON.  MOORIFLED 2ND XI HAVE BEEN CROWNED 4TH DIVISION CHAMPIONS.

Cricket began at our Moorfield Road ground in Widnes in 1958 as part of Peter Spence and Sons Recreation Club. In the 1960’s our name changed to Laporte on the acquisition of this local chemical company and this remained our status for many years. However, in 1993 we finally became independent as the Cricket Section of Moorfield Sports and Social Club and so became Moorfield Cricket Club.

From our beginnings as a works team playing in local evening leagues, plus occasional friendly matches, we have progressed to a club with players drawn from throughout the local community with competitive teams playing in the upper levels of the ECB Pyramid structure for many years now, including a brief spell in the Liverpool and District Cricket Competition – the very top of the pyramid. We now play our competitive cricket in the Southport and District Amateur Cricket League and Halton Midweek League. This is augmented by a regular series of friendly and charity matches. Along the way we have numerous Cups and Trophies and we know our club is highly regarded within the cricketing community

Junior Cricket was first introduced in the mid-1980’s as a means to recruit new players. This gathered pace during the 1990’s as the structures became more formalised and the introduction of qualified coaching staff. The age range of our Junior players has increased to include children from the age of 4 up to 18. It is our proud boast that the vast majority of our current adult players came to the club through this route. Many of our Junior players have gone on to play at higher levels, including district and county levels.

During the course of our Junior development we also pioneered the involvement of female playing members in Halton. We were the first club in the area to include female players in our open age competitive league teams. Several players have gone on to represent the county (Cheshire) at age groups levels.

Throughout our history we have maintained strong links with the local community. We are rightfully proud of our reputation for offering anyone a chance to join in irrespective of age, ability, race or gender. All are given the chance to participate fully – none are turned away. We were the first Cricket Club in the area to achieve the esteemed Club Mark status and we maintain our commitment to the ideals that this status involves.
