MOORFIELD CC

Welcome to Moorfield Cricket Club

Cricket began at our Moorfield Road ground in Widnes in 1958 as part of Peter Spence and Sons Recreation Club. In the 1960’s our name changed to Laporte on the acquisition of this local chemical company and this remained our status for many years. However, in 1993 we finally became independent as the Cricket Section of Moorfield Sports and Social Club and so became Moorfield Cricket Club.

Over more than 50 years the club has developed from a works team playing in local evening leagues, with occasional friendly matches, to a club with players drawn from throughout the local community. We have competitive teams playing in the Merseyside Cricket Competition and West Lancashire Cricket League, complemented by a regular series of friendly and charity matches, and a thriving Junior Section. The Junior Section, begun in 1986 as route to develop new players, thrived and expanded through the 1990’s and 2000’s such that we now boast over 60 players aged under 18 with routine fixtures played in the North Cheshire Junior Cricket Association. We also pioneered the involvement of female playing members in Halton.

Throughout our history we have maintained strong links with the local community. We are rightfully proud of our reputation for offering anyone a chance to join in irrespective of age, ability, race or gender. All are given the chance to participate fully – none are turned away. We were the first Cricket Club in the area to achieve the esteemed Club Mark status and we maintain our commitment to the ideals that this status involves.
